1. Who we are

thepersonals ("we", "us") operates a classified personal-ads service for adults aged 18 and over. This template policy should be reviewed by your own legal counsel before launch.

2. Data we collect

  • Account data: email address, authentication provider identifier, password hash.
  • Profile data you choose to provide: display name, date of birth, age, gender, relationship preference, metro area, bio, avatar.
  • Content data: the ads you post, likes, shortlists and reports you file.
  • Technical data: IP address, browser and device information, and security/anti-abuse logs.

3. How we use it

To operate the service (publishing and filtering ads), verify that users are 18 or older, prevent abuse and fraud, respond to reports, and comply with legal obligations. We do not sell your personal information.

4. Cookies and tracking

We use strictly necessary cookies and local storage to keep you signed in. We do not run third-party advertising trackers.

5. Storage and security

Data is stored in a managed Postgres database with row-level access controls, encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text. Only you (and, where necessary, our moderators) can see your account details.

6. Your rights (CCPA / GDPR-style)

  • Access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction: edit your profile at any time from My Desk.
  • Deletion: request deletion of your account and all associated ads, likes and reports.
  • Opt-out: we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context advertising.
  • Non-discrimination: exercising these rights will not degrade your service.

To exercise any right, use the contact page. We respond within 45 days as required by the CCPA.

7. Children

This service is strictly for adults 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from minors (COPPA). Accounts found to belong to minors are deleted immediately upon discovery or report.

8. Retention

Ads and profile data are retained while your account is active. On deletion, personal data is removed, except limited records we must keep for legal, security or abuse-prevention purposes.

We will post material changes to this page and update the date above.
